Your donation will inject hope into our community today!
Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time, and supporting efforts to address it is crucial for the well-being of our Florida way of life and future generations.
Here is why we need your support
It's a critical time for climate adaptation. We are currently experiencing the warmest global temperatures in recorded history. The warmest ocean temperatures in recorded history. The highest sea levels in recorded history. These are dangerous combinations as we move through the 2024 hurricane season. The CAC is working hard to protect our community with our 2024 hurricane forecast and monitoring, while making sure we are prepared for local impacts in light of our latest environmental concerns.
With your support, the CAC will also continue to educate our region with powerful presentations that educate our community with the current and future threats in regard to water, hurricanes and heat. Already in 2024, we've educated and presented to thousands of local residents. A very active 2024 outreach is planned for the coming months.
Human Health Concerns Increasing
The CAC is heavily investing its time and resources into the increasing concerns about climate's growing negative impacts on human health. Helping our community adapt and prepare for a climate that is warming to unprecedented levels is paramount. More days over 95º and more nights that don't drop below 80º is a projected and dangerous.
Supported by your donations, the CAC will hold its 2024 Florida Climate Conference on November 14-15, 2024. The theme of the conference will be Climate and Human Health. This year’s edition will be in the brand new conference facility at the University of South Florida, Sarasota-Manatee campus.
The CAC also produces daily content on social media to help educate the public and its decision makers. We also produce a world class website which features the very latest science from the local and global climate world.
Hope and Encouragement
The CAC also finds it very important to inspire others with hope and encouragement. One way we do this is with our annual Climate Champions Awards Ceremony. It was held in February this year and honored Jennifer Rominiecki from Selby Gardens - Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, Dr. David Tomasko from the Sarasota Bay Estuary Program, Jessica Meszaros and Steve Newborn from WUSF Public Media and Marshall Gobuty from Hunters Point By Pearl Homes.
All are making terrific contributions to our local climate and inspiring everyone in their path!
The CAC Mission
Our mission is to build CAC into a focal point connecting the scientific community, the public sector and private enterprise to apply climate science to solving Florida’s unique challenges, while engaging Florida businesses in developing cost-effective adaptation strategies for southwest Florida.
While international solutions to the global climate problem evolve in the coming decades climate impacts will be with us for at least the next lifetime. Working together with our community we provide an expert respected and proven resource not only to lower the risks for our communities but also to be a force in building the Climate Economy.
The CAC is a 501(c)(3) and is funded 100% by philanthropy.
